In 1836 the leaders of the 36 families - that existed at that time - of the village composed an honour agreement in order to protect the fir tree forest. That forest is situated at the west sisde of the village and it was named «Kefalari». Later, some of the new coming villagers, who had not signed the agreement, started acting contrary to it with the result the earlier villagers had to go to the Bishop for help. In order to help them, the Bishop composed an excommunication (aphorism). With this, each man who conducted a felony by cutting wood or grazing their goats in the forest during the fir tree growth season was consider to be excommunicated. It is highly remarkable to consider that those people, illiterate in the majority and poor, had such an ecological conscience.
